Inquiry of Writing

A writing mentoring group for curious creatives and professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit

Inquiry: (noun) The process of asking a question

Inquiry: (noun) A formal investigation to discover the facts

Writing is a form of inquiry. When we ask the right questions, the process feels exponentially more aligned, more purposeful. It allows us to deepen our thinking and expression, to connect more profoundly with ourselves and others, to live more fully and with more aliveness.

What are people saying about Inquiry of Writing?

Participants from the programme talk about their experience and the impact it has had on their writing and creativity.

Elaine Okoro, UK. Poet, performer and podcast host.

Joey Clifton, UK. Coach for purpose-led leaders. Founder, Sustainable You Coaching.

Claire Takahashi, USA. Earth artist, painter, poet and creative coach.

Lina Alrababah, Jordan. Writer and tour guide. Founder, Jordan’s Mosaic.

Why join Inquiry of Writing?

You’re a curious creative with a strong sense of purpose. You’re committed to supporting and helping people, to the importance of expression, to connecting from a place of integrity—but when it comes to writing meaningful content, you sometimes struggle.

You want to tell powerful stories. You want to express yourself with more depth and authenticity than you witness in the average social media content. You genuinely want to affect transformation in people; to offer content that resonates, that is relevant, that reflects you and your values.

You’d love to approach writing (including newsletters, articles and ebooks) with more ease and joy.

I’ve experienced these challenges myself. And I’ve seen in so many others how these challenges can be obstacles to feeling fully, creatively alive and present with those we most want to serve.

The good news is that—in the day-to-day practice of our artistry, our businesses and organisations—we’re already leveraging our curiosity, creativity and innovation.  We just need to learn how to translate it to the act of writing.

What is Inquiry of Writing?

Inquiry of Writing is both a methodology (a process for asking the right questions of yourself) and a purposefully-held, investigative space.

It is:

  • a place for exploring and responding to powerful and illuminating questions that anchor self-knowledge and stimulate creativity

  •  an online space that offers resources and thought-provoking prompts

  •  a community membership that gathers like-minded people to journey together towards more confident self-expression

  •  a thinking space, in which you will be inspired to explore new ideas and find permission to deepen those you already have

  •  a container of accountability, in which you will get things written

  •  a methodology to equip you with more insight into your thinking and creativity, a structure in which to experiment and a place to express and share

  •  a process through which you can build a sustained writing practice

The programme is rolling and you can join at any time. We have on average two meetings each month/six meetings per quarter and you can stay as long as you want. However, to get the maximum benefit from the programme, I highly recommend attending for at least six sessions/three months. Payment is monthly by a pre-arranged subscription.

At each session, there’ll be an opportunity for checking in, updating on progress and celebrating achievements. There’ll be prompts and questions, which are designed to function as the stimulus for writing from scratch or as threads you might weave into your existing ideas. There’ll also be opportunities for asking questions of me, or seeking guidance about a specific piece you’re working on.

Central to each session is a sustained block of writing time, during which you’ll work alongside others on content for your practice, organisation or business (e.g. blog posts, newsletter content, scripts for a podcast, e-books and reports, as well as creative pieces and articles).

Inquiry of Writing aims to:

  • provide a springboard to fuel your creative content

  • stimulate your interest and enthusiasm for creative process

  • increase your knowledge and awareness of a range of methodologies so you can begin to master the craft of writing

  • provide a defined space for you to write on a regular basis

  • connect you with peers who share similar values, intentions and challenges—so we can all be witnesses and cheerleaders on the writing journey

  • enable you to leverage powerful questions to increase your self-awareness and its expression in your writing, and to connect more powerfully with others

Regular attendance at the sessions will equip you with an enhanced relationship with your creativity and how to access it, as well as increased confidence in knowing how to convey your values and your message. You’ll have forged supportive relationships with others in the group. You’ll have begun to produce a powerful body of work and will have developed the embodied experience of building a consistent, deliberate writing practice.

What do others say about this work?

  • “You’re a wonderful space holder. You have a lovely energy. You bring beautiful people together.”

  • "The sessions are perfectly introduced and set up -- with imaginative exercises to prime word creativity. The content is a perfect blend of space and a simple structure. It also allows time and flexibility to respond to what is unfolding in the group."

  • "Starting with a question instead of trying to sweat out a first sentence has been a game changer for me. I also loved the process of mapping, drafting, crafting. It was liberating to realise that the crafting comes much later in the process. This insight is huge for me. "

  • "Thank you so much, Rachel. You hold a space with a beautiful balance of grounded confidence, and vulnerable ‘we-are-in-this-together’ ness."

  • "Rachel creates an absolutely fantastic inclusive and encouraging atmosphere. I came away with the feeling of 'yes, I can do this'."

  • "Thank you so much for the session yesterday. I loved it and it really shifted my perspective. This is such a wonderful offering for coaches and other entrepreneurs to develop a much-needed skill."

We should write because writing brings clarity and passion to the act of living. Writing is sensual, experiential, grounding. We should write because writing is good for the soul. We should write because writing yields us a body or work, a felt path through the world we live in.
